Milk does not come from bottles, fruits do not come from malls!

8th October 2017

By NatureLabs

This Outdoor Classroom Day, let us dispel our children’s deep ignorance about where does everything they eat, come from.

By encouraging and creating opportunities for children to spend just a few hours with dairy animals, vegetable plants, and trees, there’s a whole new world you can open up   for your child. Several concepts, which you have been theoretically teaching your kid, will start making more sense. For example, when you said something as interesting as the ‘Web of Life’ in an indoor setting such as a classroom, did it leave your kids amazed or did it just pass away as something mundane and boring?  Well, now try out a farm visit!  Not only tell but show children how cows, vegetables, plants, humans, birds, insects, and other elements of nature are so deeply interconnected – stoke their imagination in more ways than teaching indoors ever could.

In a typical classroom setting, you have students of different abilities and aptitudes, and the limited opportunities that indoor learning offers might result in students feeling inhibited to fully participate in the learning process as compared to some of their other classmates.  In comparison, the outdoors offer an effective environment which is comfortable, interesting, attractive, and overall conducive to holding the intrinsic interest of every child…the outdoors present children with myriad ways to practice and explore any new information that they have learned providing all children with a platform to realize their potential. So, this October 12, plan a visit with your children to a nearby farm and let them commune with animals, plants, birds, and trees.  Let them experience simple things like cows being milked, participating in vegetable harvesting, planting new saplings, and many other such nature based activities.   This hands-on approach will give meaning to what your kids consume every day and lend richness to their everyday experiences with nature.  Don’t we all want this for our children?
